Persisam Putra or PUSAM FC is a local soccer club from Samarinda, East Kalimantan. This club was a difusion of two big soccer clubs in Samarinda, namely Persisam or Persatuan Sepak Bola Indonesia Samarinda and Putra Samarinda from GALATAMA league. Persisam which was homebased in Segiri Stadium which capasity is more than 25.000 spectators. And in the season 2008-2009 they were succeeding to won the Indonesian Premier League (Divisi Utama).

The two teams then made a significant progress although in different management. Persisam was under the management of government while PUSAM was under the private management. The brighter performance was shown by PUSAM which was funded privately by some local entrepreneur. PUSAM showed they best performance in GALATAMA. Unfortunately, this GALATAMA league has been merged with the Union league and became Indonesian League. With this condition, PUSAM FC name wasn’t heard anymore.

In contrary, Persisam which was funded by the government of Samarinda could keep going with that amount of fund. But the progress of this club was declining. With that terrible condition, Persisam was thrown to Second Division in 2002 – 2003 seasons. But in the next two seasons, Persisam came back to they glory days, moreover after the merger with PUSAM FC and officially becomes Persisam Putra Samarinda.

The progress of Persisam Putra Samarinda increased a lot. The Borneo Eagle (Elang Borne0o) as what this club was known, can flies again in the sky. This club succeeded to go to big four in Second Division (2005) and made their promotion to First Division. Played for only two seasons in the second level of Indonesian Football, this club again made their way to the Premier League in 2007, which was the highest level of Indonesian football. And Persisam Putra Samarinda placed on the third position of this competition.

Persisam Putra Samarinda had given their best performance along the competition. And their great efforts were bear fruit. They successfully won the Premier League and made their way to Indonesian Super League, a professional competition, the highest privilege of Indonesian football at this moment.

  • 1996/1997 : fifth place in eastern zone
  • 1997/1998 : fourth place in eastern zone
  • 1998/1999 : the competition was stopped
  • 1999/2000 : twelfth place in eastern zone (degradation to division 1)
  • 2001/2002 : division 1
  • 2002/2003 : division 1 (degradation to second division)
  • 2004 : Big 8 round of second division
  • 2005 : Big 5 round of second division (promoted to first division)
  • 2006 : seventh place in first division
  • 2007 : third place in first division (promoted to premier league / Divisi Utama)
  • 2008/2009 : In 2008/2009 season Persisam Putra Samarinda became the most interesting club to Indonesian public, media, and also football observers in Indonesia. Since this club only play in Premier League but has so many famous names in its team. And in the beginning of season, Persisam Putra Samarinda could easily beat its challenger in their home base stadium, Segiri Stadium, Samarinda. Until the X factor which was mentioned to be the “secret” why this club “always win” being a hot rumor among the football lovers in Indonesia. In this year, Persisam Putra Samarinda succeeded to be the champion of Premier League (Divisi Utama) after beat Persema Malang 1-0 in the final.
  • 2009/2010 : In this season, Persisam Putra Samarinda has been transformed into a great club, but the success of the players was not in accordance with the management which managed this club. The internal problem of the management caused fatal effect to the club. With the rumor of the dissolution of the club, the owner of the club H.Harbiansyah Hanafiah took back the management of Persisam Putra Samarinda. Thus made this Samarinda people pride club could keep going on in the Indonesian Super League. From that moment, this club stole away the heart of Samarinda citizens and became the most interesting entertainment in Samarinda.
